Birth Certificate

Afghan nationals residing in Germany can apply for an Afghan Birth Certificate at this Consulate General. If all required documents are complete, the certificate is issued on the same day.

Important Information:
You must visit the Consulate General in person. A Birth Certificate cannot be issued in your absence, via post, or online.

You must book an appointment in advance through the official online system. Walk-in visits without an appointment are not accepted.

Applications are accepted only during official working hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 – 14:00.

Required Documents

Provide a copy of your valid Afghan Tazkira attested by the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, your e-Tazkira, or your valid Afghan Passport — along with the originals.
Provide a copy of your Aufenthaltstitel or Personalausweis — both sides, clearly showing your name and address.
Two recently taken passport-size photos with a plain white background are required.
  • 35 × 45 mm
  • Plain white
  • High resolution, sharp, and in colour
  • Neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible
  • Not permitted
  • Taken within the last 6 months
If you already have a birth certificate — issued in Afghanistan, Germany, or another country — bring the original or a certified translation. Documents issued outside Afghanistan must be officially attested by the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
If applying for a child born in Germany, you must also provide the German birth certificate (Geburtsurkunde), both parents' Afghan Tazkira or Passport, and the parents' marriage certificate. If the child is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present at the appointment.
If you were born outside Afghanistan and do not have an Afghan birth certificate, the Consulate can still issue one based on your valid Afghan Tazkira or Passport. The applicable fee will apply.

Issuance Process

  1. Attend Your Appointment: Come to the Consulate General at your scheduled time and bring all required documents.
  2. Document Verification: A consular officer will review and verify your documents. If anything is missing, your application cannot be processed on that day.
  3. Same-Day Issuance: If all requirements are met, your Birth Certificate will be issued on the same day during working hours.
