Death Certificate

In the event of the passing of an Afghan national in Germany, the Consulate General can issue an official Afghan Death Certificate. This document is required for inheritance proceedings, property matters, and other legal purposes in Afghanistan.

Important Information:
The applicant — a next of kin or legal representative of the deceased — must visit the Consulate General in person. This document cannot be processed via post or online.

An appointment must be booked in advance through the official online system. Visiting the Consulate General without an appointment is not permitted.

Applications are accepted only during official working hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 – 14:00.

Required Documents

A copy of the deceased person's valid Afghan Tazkira or Afghan Passport must be provided.
The official German death certificate issued by the relevant registry office (Standesamt). This document must contain the personal details of the deceased, the cause of death, and the details of the person who reported the death.
The applicant must provide their own Afghan Tazkira or Passport, along with proof of German residence — a copy of the Aufenthaltstitel or Personalausweis, both sides.
Documents confirming the family relationship between the applicant and the deceased — such as a family register (Familienbuch), a marriage certificate, or a birth certificate.

Issuance Process

  1. In-Person Appointment: The applicant must attend the appointment at the Consulate General and present all required documents for review.
  2. Document Verification: All submitted documents will be carefully reviewed and verified by consular staff. If any document is missing or incomplete, the application cannot be processed.
  3. Issuance: Once all requirements are fulfilled, the Afghan Death Certificate will be issued. Processing time may vary depending on the circumstances of the case.
